"a challenging stay"
I did as much research as I could and even though there was no indication that it was possible for us to get a fridge, I hoped for the best. The reason it's a must for us is because of my 2.5 yr old son. He needs his milk. We checked in, I asked and unfortunately, the answer is no. Apparently, it isn't available AT ALL. I've been to Mexico several times but it's my 1st time getting a hotel in Tijuana and my 1st time choosing 'pay at the hotel' through Expedia. So I didn't expect to be charged the deposit a day before my check in date although I'm sure it's probably somewhere in the emails. The girl at the front desk did her best to explain it to me and my husband seemed to understand it better so he explained it to me too. So at check in, I was asked to pay for the entire stay in full then when I checked out, I was asked to sign a receipt that said the deposit will be cancelled. The girl even pointed out to me where it said 'cancel'. I was really impressed by the enormous flat-screen smart TV we got in our room. Unfortunately, the settings, menu, etc were all in Spanish. I tried every option to try to connect it to wifi. I could not for the life of me, figure it out. I brought my fire stick which ended up being totally useless. At least we had our Ipads with us and were still able to watch Netflix that way but as anyone can imagine, it would have been so much more awesome to have that up on the big TV. Buffet breakfast was decent. I really enjoyed the omelet station and make your own waffles. Both were delicious. The rest of the offerings which were Mexican dishes, cereal, etc. weren't really to my liking. The price was ok at 250 pesos. You should be able to find anything you need at the plaza next door. There's a grocery store called Soriana which also sells household items and clothes but more importantly, there's cooked food, a bakery dept and a whole bunch of drinks alcoholic or not. Next to Soriana, there's a chicken place, Diego's tortas and a bakery. We went to Diego's tortas a couple of times coz we liked it. To the other side of that plaza is a Scotiabank where you can use the ATM free of fees if you use a Bank of America debit card. Crossing the border at 6AM on a Saturday will take about 30 min (from the time you line up). At that same time on a Monday seemed busier which probably has to do with people going to work. We ended up crossing through a different border (not San Ysidro) and was led by our GPS into the fast pass line. VERY IMPORTANT LESSON: don't ever go there when you don't have that fast pass card. As we were told, the 1st time is a freebie. You will be entered into the system so when they catch you pulling that again, it's a $5k fine and the car will be impounded. Hubby was really freaked out about that. It didn't help that we were pulled aside and our car inspected. The officer we got was super nice and did it as quickly as he could, he said it happens quite a bit. As for things to do...We went to Mr. Pampas on our 1st night. You WILL have to do valet esp on the busy nights and it's complimentary so that was cool. They have another location in Ensenada and we like that one more. We probably could have tried to find other taco places but TJ is just too crazy for us. We drove to Taco's El Yaqui in Rosarito after having lobsters in Puerto Nuevo. There's lots of cool pottery shops on the way when you're taking the other street (not freeway). They're parallel to each other.
"If business takes you to TIjuana"
I stay at this hotel every time I travel to Tijuana as it is convenient to the facility I work at, is very nice and comfortable and the food is great. The service and amenities are also a great addition to the hotel.
I have always stay on junior city express whenever I pass by Tijuana but this time they were book, so I got a room at Fiesta Inn and wow I can really see the difference.. the bests are soft, the act works and the buffet breakfast is great.. ok is not free but it only cost 225 or 250 pesos which is not back once u see the quality of food, but also the hotel is more secure u can go up the elevator without a room key card and the tvs are huge.. I really think this will be my hotel from now on.
"Reservation not Honored"
We arrived to the hotel at check in time. We were told the rooms were not available because the hotel was a full capacity. They told us we could use the hotels facilities and wait about 30 minutes for our rooms to be available. The only area to go was the lobby or the pool area. We arrived with my 1,5 & 13year old who were very tired from the drive up from L.A. We opted to head to the pool area . We were then surprised the hotel also rents out its pool area for parties. We had to walk around the lawn area that was filled by party tables and guest then go over to the far end and share the entire pool full of kid from the party. We then go check in 45 minutes later and were advised our reservation was not available as we had asked for 2 queen beds and were given a different room with a single bed and sofa bed. We had to complain to get them to give us one of the two rooms reserved and paid back to its original request. After I complained they said they would switch us the following day because nothing was available that day. We only got apologies and never offered a complimentary compensation like a discount or a free breakfast , a free drink or even a free coffee. They manager apologized endlessly but never went out of her way to see what they could do on their own free will to remediate the error. The staff was friendly but I will never stay again with risk of showing up and getting a very unpleasant surprise. I would not recommend their hotel as they blame their system for the error and not blacking out the rooms reserved. In that case what is the point of prepaying and reserving. Do not stay at this hotel unless you are okay with unpleasant and unwanted surprises and don’t care if you get what you paid for.
We had to booked this hotel due to a mistake with another hotel. Fiesta Inn saved the day. This hotel is pretty clean, staff is friendly. Registration took a while, there was only one person in the front desk, but we understood, it was late when we registered.
